Google to bring India specific features on Google Maps

 Google  is bringing in India-specific features on Google Maps  to address unique challenges and opportunities, a senior company official said. "Google Maps is not just about navigating from point A to B. We have been building for India, addressing the unique challenges and opportunities, with the sole aim of making Google maps more comprehensive, accurate and reliable," Google Maps for India, Program Manager, Anal Ghosh said. Ghosh talked about innovating features for India specifically. The two-wheeler mode in Google maps comes to India first as 70 per cent of all the vehicles registered in the country are two wheelers, he added. "Two-wheeler mode in maps shows trip routes that use shortcuts not accessible to cars, buses and trucks. It also provides customized traffic and arrival time estimations," he said. NEW YORK: Researchers have developed a novel app which can act as a nutritionist at the shopper's side in the grocery store. Aptly named "FoodSwitch", the app can help users scan a packaged food's barcode, quickly see its nutritional rating and identify similar foods that are healthier. "FoodSwitch is unique in that users don't have to hunt for healthier alternatives. They're all listed in the app," Mark Huffman, Associate Professor at Northwestern University in the US said in a statement released by the university. Unlike other nutrition apps, FoodSwitch also asks users to crowdsource information on new and changing foods within a country's food supply to update the app's 268,000-product database in real time. The app provides a simple "Health Star Rating" that scores each food between 0.5 stars of unhealthy to 5 stars of the healthiest. Facebook launches digital literacy library.

San Francisco, Facebook on Friday announced the launch of a "Digital Literacy Library" to help young people build the skills they need to safely enjoy online technology. "Today, we're launching our Digital Literacy Library, a collection of lessons to help young people think critically and share thoughtfully online," Antigone Davis, Global Head of Safety at Facebook, wrote in a blog post. "There are 830 million young people online around the world, and this library is a resource for educators looking to address digital literacy and help these young people build the skills they need to safely enjoy digital technology," Davis added. AI can reveal your personality via eye movements

Sydney, Researchers have developed an Artificial intelligence (AI )-based system that can reveal your personality  type just by looking at your eye movements. The system uses Machine Learning  (ML) algorithms to demonstrate a link between personality and eye movements. The findings showed that people's eye movements reveal whether they are sociable, conscientious or curious, with the algorithm software  reliably recognizing four of the "Big Five" personality traits -- neuroticism, extroversion, agreeableness and conscientiousness. "People are always looking for improved, personalized services. However, today's robots and computers are not socially aware so they cannot adapt to non-verbal cues," said Dr Tobias Loetscher from University of South Australia. Google announces one of the biggest revamp to Gmail after 2013.

SAN FRANCISCO: Alphabet Inc's Google  unveiled on Wednesday its first Gmail redesign since 2013, capping what the company says was an expensive overhaul two years in the making to adopt security and offline functionality and better resemble Microsoft Outlook. It is Google's most extensive update to software in its G Suite  workplace bundle since accelerating efforts to steal business from Microsoft Corp's dominant Office workplace software suite.
